dooced is the new farked?

Yesterday I had a modest weblog. One hundred, two hundred hits a day, a few regulars faithfully commenting.

Today I have over 1700 hits. And it's not even 11:30 in the morning.

I've been linked by Dooce. This has driven my hits through the roof and excited my wife, who phoned me this morning to tell me that her weblog was being boarded* by surfers coming from my site. Then her voice dropped to a whisper: "You've been linked by Dooce," she breathed.

I had to pause a moment to process two things: 1) Heather Armstrong reads my site; 2) it seemed to be getting my wife kind of hot.

It turns out that she linked to my post about the care and feeding of elderly Jews. Faaantastic. I'm going to be that Guy Who Wrote About the Jews from now on. This is not something I can put on my CV.

Actually, I'm thrilled. What this is going to give me is a billion more weblogs to read, a billion more interesting and funny and thoughtful people to wave hello to across the cybergulf. And once the initial rush of visitors drops off, there'll be a few who stick around. As Just Linda said, I'm in for it.

*I say 'boarded' because I picture the web surfers as pirates on surfboards. I don't know why.

Wow. I'm speechless. That's the kind of fame us lesser bloggers can only dream about!

And I understand why the wife is getting hot about it. I would too.

This has the effect of making me not give a rat's ass about work. And anything which does that is good in my book.

ARRRR!!! Prepare to be boarded ye swab!

Kind of makes me wish Dooce linked you on International Talk Like A Pirate Day. It would have made the mental image more appropo.

I hope you don't forget me -
especially after the whole
robot vagina incident.

Blackbird, you are my first and best reader. This place is big enough for you and a robot vagina.

i must say that i had seen your blog once or twice before but once dooce linked you i decided you must be worth taking a daily peek at ;)... also the surfboarding pirates -- that's classic - thanks for giving me so much to laugh about at work lol

Maybe you'll get a digg as well, who knows?

FYI, your feed points to a 404 page, from which you can infer a link to this one. They might benefit from your new found traffic as well, unless it's one of yours and you used to be a soon-to-be-married woman. Either way.

Wow, you're like famous or something. Can I touch your robot vagina?

Jason - thanks for the heads up on my feed. All fixed now. And I will never never forgive that Other Palinode for taking my name before I thought of it.

Savia - You can certainly buy me a robot vagina sometime. My preferred robot vagina is jalapeno cheddar or mesquite bbq. Or you can buy me a Fussy tshirt.

i'm trying to scour the image of blackbird in a robot vagina out of my mind.

Yeah it kind of has the tendency to slam work down for a bit. I was linked a couple of weeks ago by some site that I had never even heard of and I was giddy as a schoolgirl when I passed 200 hits by noon.

Not sure what the thrill is--but I think I'd get one if Dooce linked to me.

This Dooce really is all powerful. Her influence is remarkable.

Ha! GO YOU!

I'm glad to have found you via that post because, well, I have 5 kids and a mortgage and daycare and college fees to pay so I need AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to make me laugh every day.

But how cool was that linky-dink?? I think the Blog Superstars should always pay it forward and promote the newbies just getting their blog on.

And then look at you, all linkin' me up like we're BFF (and if you don't know what BFFs are, let me give you one of my daughters... BFF is a girl thang).

So do this mean you're too famous to send out that postcard I won? I spent like, a whole fortnight on that poem.

yeah, she linked you, and your site had my arse laughing hard, linked :D

Ack, I admit it. I stumbled into this place through Dooce. Though, I'm not really a regular there, so I guess today's your lucky day.

I don't know what kind of underwear Heather wears, Dana - you should offer her some dirty money to find out.

palinode said...

Really? I would have fallen for it. Probably a few times.

Came here from Dooce, you lucky lucky man. Now I have one more blog to keep me from doing the work I actually get paid to do, sigh.

Keep feeding the elderly Jews, they need Starbucks too.

Also arrived via Dooce...congrats on the numbers this week! I came back for more so count me as another regular here.

I am so green with envy here. But now I've read into this and am so happy for you. It's a great blog. One I will add to my growing list. Cheers!

Directed here by dooce.. stayed because you bring the funny.

And you keep your robot vagina sand-free.

I live a long way from water, so I don't anticipate sand issues.

You should see Surf Nazis Must Die (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094077/). That film masterpiece not only features evil Nazis riding surfboards, but also contains at least one teen Nazi with a hook for a hand riding a surfboard. That's how I picture web surfers.

palinode said...

Ah, the reliable 'hook for a hand' image. If it never existed, we'd have to make it up.

I never saw Surf Nazis Must Die, but I remember seeing the VHS box on the shelves of the video store in the town where I grew up. I think I even remember it on laserdisc.

It's sort of a curse if you think about it: if I come back here next week and you're not as funny as you were when you made fun of that Jew, I'm NEVER coming back. And neither will my posse.

:)
