Your view of plumbing drains the nobility out of plumbing. Think of the Aqueducts, dams, the dykes, of man harnessing nature. Think of Hercules, Jesus, and Moses their water feats were all allegories of Plumbing -- Man dominating the water; plumbing us free from the death and chaos of the great flood.

Brazil: Think of the heroic Buttle the master plumber of the flex-ducts. He is the plumb-line of humanity cutting clean through and Orwelling world. He is the plumber as the exemplar of honesty and human tenacity beating bureaucracy and insanity.

Dune: Who no longer requires the weirding module? The Atreides' Plumber! Here a living god turns on the faucet and saves the universe -- that's really the whole movie.

Water is the giver of life. The Neptune and master of water in the modern world is the plumber. The plumber knows life from the pure to the offal.

The plumber is often thematic shown as the solver. The one who sees the whole picture. The one that can see the solution that is right before the faces of others.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6943519.post-44419079354249827392008-02-22T12:26:00.000-06:002008-02-22T12:26:00.000-06:00helvetica - I thought of Dark Water while writing ...helvetica - I thought of Dark Water while writing this, but I haven't seen it. I tell you this, though: Asian horror films love plumbing mishaps.

ozma - I've seen too many people run through the academic mill, including family members, to have any desire to make a life there. Although it would be a good place for my bent of mind.

lotus07 - I completely agree. We entrust plumbing to others because no one wants to take on the task him or herself.palinodehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01029915232895358768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6943519.post-34212100261268101812008-02-22T09:43:00.000-06:002008-02-22T09:43:00.000-06:00I will learn how to do anything myself.....except ...I will learn how to do anything myself.....except plumbing. It is worth paying someone else to do that. I have learned the hard way. Doing it yourself, you will NEVER have the right tool, and at my age, I can never fit my hand / arm / body into the space where the pipe is.Bruce Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10898228670873232050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6943519.post-24167362600039145152008-02-22T00:44:00.000-06:002008-02-22T00:44:00.000-06:00Oh sometimes it just makes me so SAD that you aren...Oh sometimes it just makes me so SAD that you aren't an academic! You'd be well on your way to full professor of film studies with that book.

It just seems like such a WASTE. Of course, you have to write the book and all. There's the rub.Ozmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02975578823318395358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6943519.post-33313212233488823132008-02-21T13:38:00.000-06:002008-02-21T13:38:00.000-06:00Hey this post reminds me of Dark Water, which is a...Hey this post reminds me of Dark Water, which is a movie about bad plumbing (well according to the preview anyhow, I never actually saw the film).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
